Model Release and Property Release

Model Release:

If you see your face appears on TV without being asked for permission, is this ok for you? No? Therefore, we required videos, footage or clips with identifiable people must have Model Release, those identifiable individuals who consent to having their photographs used publicly.

Property Release:

This is the same for private property, trademarks, and visible logos: Would you like to see your private home displayed on an advertising without prior notice? No? That’s the reason we require “Property Release”. Property release require the owner to give their permission for that video, footage or clip to be made available for commercial purposes.

Be especially careful with images depicting Walt Disney and Lego products, whose rights only permit editorial use.

Editorial vs Commercial Use

There is a difference between an “editorial” use and a “commercial” use. Model-Releases and Property Releases are particularly important for commercial uses. However, if you are downloading contents from Shuttervid.com and use it, for example, on your personal blog (i.e., with no intention to sell or promote a brand or product), then that is likely to be deemed a non-commercial, editorial usage.
